Introduction

EasyJet was established in 1995 and has become one of the world’s top low-cost-carriers. It carries more passengers per year than any other U.K. based airline including British Airways. It has a large reach, running over 500 routes between destinations in Europe, North Africa and Western Asia.  Its main focus is on budget travelers.  Its cabins and in-flight amenities are basic.

The airline originally only flew between London and Scotland, adding international flights in 1997 (to Amsterdam).  It has since spread out throughout Europe.  EasyJet’s business model was fashioned after successful US-based budget airline Southwest.

Competing Airlines

Ryanair

Strengths
  • Lowest fares in Europe
  • Large reach throughout Europe and even into Africa and Asia
  • Slightly more-customer friendly than competitor Ryanair

Weaknesses
  • Few in-flight amenities
  • No trans-Atlantic flights
  • No rewards program

Frequent Flier Program and Airport Lounges

EasyJet does not have a frequent flier program or lounges. It has begun to offer package vacations however. EasyJetHotel and EasyJet Holidays are programs that make it possible for EasyJet customers to book hotels and package vacations at the same time that they are booking their flight.

Conclusion

EasyJet is the obvious choice for people who want to fly around Europe cheaply. Its service is slightly superior to its competition. EasyJet has over 500 routes, making low cost travel around the continent possible. EasyJet has become a popular alternative to Europe’s fabled trains. For people who don’t expect any frills at all, EasyJet is the obvious money-saving choice.
