Introduction
For travelers in and around the Yellowknife area of Canada, Air Tindi is a recognizable airline. It is a regional carrier with a small fleet of small Cessna and DHC turboprop aircraft. It services the Northwest Territories with planes able to land on snow, water and on traditional runways.
The airline was a family-run company until 2006, when it was bought by publicly-held Discovery Air. This has led to a modest expansion of service and fleet. In addition to commercial flights, the airline also offers cargo, air ambulance and charter services.

Strengths
- The only commercial airline to fly to some destinations in the Northwest Territories
- Small airline with user-friendly and personal service
- Able to land in snow and on water
Weaknesses
- Limited reach, even for a commuter airline
- Old airplanes
- No extras whatsoever
Frequent Flier Program and Airport Lounges
There is no rewards program at Air Tindi and no airport lounges associated with the airline.
Conclusion
Air Tindi is a glorified bush airline that was, until 2006, a family-owned enterprise. A certain level of personalized service still remains. If you find yourself in need of a flight in Canada’s remote Northwest Territories, Air Tindi is a good option (and often the only option). It is definitely at the low end of the commercial airline spectrum in terms of size and amenities, but what it does, it does very well.
