Introduction
Air Europe is a major carrier in Spain. It offers domestic service and operates long-haul routes. It has gradually shifted its focus from charter flights to vacation destinations in the Mediterranean to regular domestic service with a handful of international routes. The airline is one of the few commercial airlines that is owned by a travel company. The company, Globalia, owns 100% of Europa. Europa’s transformation into a commercial airline did not fully occur until 2007, when it was allowed to join the SkyTeam alliance after several years of negotiations.
The airline has a large reach when it comes to international travel. It operates flights to Africa and the Americas, as well as Europe. Most of its routes are regional and domestic. It is a major provider of service to Spain’s popular vacation destinations.

Strengths
- Good service to vacation destinations in Spain
- Good alternative for trans-Atlantic flights
- Affiliates give Europa a good reach
- Good frequent flier program
Weaknesses
- Not the cheapest for European flights
- Sub-par in-flight entertainment
- Competition on popular routes means Europa doesn’t always have lowest fares
Frequent Flier Program and Airport Lounges
Air Europa’s frequent flier program is called Flying Blue. It is a program created by Air France/KLM. It can be used on Air France/KLM airlines as well as on Air Europa. In addition, miles can be earned by flying on any Skyteam member airline. There is an upgrade program that allows members to increase their status by flying more frequently.
Conclusion
Air Europa can be a good alternative for people flying across the Atlantic to Spain. However, general flights around the continent of Europe can be found cheaper and with more regularity on other carriers. Europa’s largest strength is its service to Spain’s vacation destinations and flights to Spain from Latin America.
