Introduction

Adria Airways is the national carrier of Slovenia.  It began in the 1960s as a small carrier flying to regional destinations in Europe.  It mainly focused on charter flights, even after introducing jet aircraft into its fleet.  It wasn’t until the 1990s that it began regular commercial service.  Things really took off after Slovenia gained independence from Yugoslavia in the early 1990s.  Some of the airline’s fleet was actually destroyed during the battle for independence.  The airline continued to grow and is now working closely with Lufthansa to gain more traction in Central and Southern Europe.  It is expected to act as a regional carrier, code sharing flights with Lufthansa.   It is still a relatively small player in the highly competitive European market, but its record of growth and its partnership with Lufthansa mean that the future looks good.

Frequent Flier Program and Airport Lounges

Adria’s frequent flier program is called Miles and More. Passengers can earn miles flying on Adria or flying with any other member of the Star Alliance. The program was adopted from Lufthansa Airline and is fully integrated with Lufthansa and Swiss Air, among others. Adria’s lounges are known as Senator Lounges. Premium class fliers can access the lounges and can also access other Star Alliance lounges at most of the airports that Adria serves.

Conclusion

Adria is really only a good choice for fliers headed to the Slovenia and the Balkans, or perhaps other destinations in Eastern Europe. That said, it can be a good option because it often offers special low fares and deals to these parts of Europe. As a member of the Star Alliance, it also has good miles-earning programs.
